Dell XPS 15 9550 review: A powerful all-rounder

The DELL XPS 15 9550 is only 17 millimeters very thin, but nevertheless quite noble – thanks to the housing made of an aluminum-carbon fiber mix. The area around the very good, illuminated keyboard and the classy glass touchpad overlays a haptically pleasant rubber coating. The glare-free and bright 15.6-inch display (Full-HD, IPS) is also very positive.

Dell XPS 15 9550: Benchmark Results

The low overall height of the Dell XPS 15 9550 has the disadvantage, however: thicker interfaces such as a LAN port or an optical drive have no place.

Conclusion

Only WLAN-ac is available for the network connection. Otherwise, the Dell notebook offers a sufficient number of home users with Bluetooth, HDMI, a headphone output and an SD card reader, as well as two USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 type Calle interfaces.

Dell XPS 15 (9550): details

The performance components of our test configuration were well coordinated. The four-core IntelCore i5-6300HQ (max. 3.2 GHz), 8 GB DDR4 RAM and the NvidiaGeForce GTX 960 (2 GB) harmonize well with each other. Only the HDD did not fit right into the picture. However, it is supported by a 32-GB SSD as an over-sized cache for frequently used data.

The good overall performance is also quite nice on the battery. Thanks to Quadcore CPU and powerful graphics card, the Dell performs well in performance (see below). In the PCMark-8 battery test, the 56 Wh battery, however, only lasted for 3:47 hours.

At a fair price, the Dell XPS 15 offers a decent set-up and enough performance for office applications and current games, as long as you do not choose the graphics details too high
