Devolo dLAN TV SAT 2400-CI + in the test

Already the first version of the satellite TV from the socket convinced. Now there is the successor model with extended functionality.

For the receiver

The reception unit is unchanged: It records the satellite signal directly from the LNB of the dish and the multicaster. According to experience, this unit is placed on the roof near the satellite dish. The package includes screws and dowels to attach the tuner to a wall.

Digital video recorder

The Ethernet cable then connects the tuner to the power supply adapter. The receiver is connected in the same way: Plug the power adapter into the socket and the Ethernet cable into both units (adapter and receiver).

Sat reception and network capability

The installation is done in a few steps. A self-explanatory wizard on the screen of the connected TV will guide you through the further configuration, such as channel search and image adjustments.

Conclusion

The receiver is slimmer than the previous model and has a CI-Plus interface. With appropriate module and smartcard, it is ready to receive pay TV or HD-Plus.

Unfortunately, the CI-Plus slot is placed at the back of the unit so that it must be moved from its position on the shelf each time the module or card is to be changed. But since Sky also offers HD subscribers to its subscribers, this is likely to be rare.

Electricity consumption has been reduced. In contrast to its predecessor, the unit consumes considerably less energy. Positive: There is a power saving mode that lowers consumption to near zero.

The 2400-CI + can also be a digital video recorder. It has two USB jacks on the front and back. As a recording medium, a hard drive or a USB stick is an option. A hard disk is recommended for larger archives.

The receiver recognizes the connected medium independently and may request formatting. There should therefore be no data on the storage medium. While the predecessor model still required hard drives with its own power supply, the successor can do without the USB storage medium directly

Programming a recording is a simple task. The integrated electronic program magazine (EPG) allows the planning of all recordings. Even for inexperienced users, intuitive graphical user guidance makes the operation immediately accessible via the connected TV set. However, one can only conditionally record a program while looking at another. To do this, the selected stations must be on the same transponder.

The screen menus are attractive, modern and do not overload, but tidy. Above all, the Media Browser provides a good overview of all videos, music and images that are slumbering on the USB medium.

A little more support with the different video and music formats would be desirable, however, to make the receiver even more flexible in the multimedial area. The device could not play DivX videos. WMA and WMV, too, unfortunately do not exist.

Image and sound quality are very good. Even the HDTV signal comes clearly over the socket. The tuner could increase at the reception level. With a 33 dBμV measured in the laboratory, the receiving unit is in the middle of the receiver we tested.

If the receiver is additionally connected to the local network via Powerline, it can also process HbbTV. With UPnP and DLNA certification, the receiver is also ideal for playing videos, pictures and movies from the home network.

The devolo dLAN TV Sat 2400-CI + offers flexibility when receiving satellite TV. Cable pulling is therefore a thing of the past. With the Powerline technology, the TV signal can be picked up from any power outlet to any outlet and can be picked up there.

The whole thing works surprisingly well, only plug connectors should be avoided if possible. The receiver is very multimedia-friendly thanks to DLNA capability.
