Film Types ...

According to forecasts, the year 2009 could be the first in which no new band camcorders come on the market. This is a pity, because apart from the bandalat, uncomfortable coils and transfer to the PC in real time, there are few disadvantages.

The band

Quite the opposite: Cheaper than with HDV can not be filmed in High Definition. In the standard definition range, tape camcorders are unbeaten price anyway. In addition, the cost of cutting tape-based DV and HDV video is significantly lower. Last but not least, the archiving at the band is a child's play: get out of the camcorder - into the shelf.

Like the band, the era of the DVD is also drawing to a close. At the same time, the band was replaced. The most important advantage is that it can be put into the Blu-ray player and played back immediately after shooting in the DVD player or in the case of AVCHD. However, there are some disadvantages: The different disc types not only cause confusion, They also sometimes restrict the compatibility with the DVD players. In addition, the capacity is far below that of a tape, even with double-layered media. With the first Blu-ray Cam, Hitachi tried last year to revive the disc. Meanwhile, one has withdrawn from the American market.

The DVD

She is the shooting star of the season. Equipped with photo cameras, capacities of now up to 32 gigabytes ensure that they are also suitable for preserving moving images. This is about twice the storage capacity of DV tapes. They are extremely robust and very compact and do not cause any background noise. So far, high-capacity maps are not cheap.

Prices are falling rapidly and so some experts predict that they will be archived in the future. An additional archiving on hard disk is necessary. Card cams are therefore suitable for small-scale filmmakers and for specialists with the appropriate computer equipment.

The first camcorder with memory came from Samsung. Instead of a hard disk, a mechanic-free solid-state memory was installed, similar to a memory card - only unchangeable. The capacity ranges from 8 gigabytes to 32 gigabytes (Canon FS 11 and HF 11).

The advantages correspond to those of the memory cards. However, since each memory is full, it must either be erased or copied to another medium. That is why such camcorders are usually combined with card drives, for security so to speak. Memory more expensive camcorders, especially those with 32 gigabytes, just a few hundred euros.

The hard drive offers mainly one - storage space en mass. With 30 gigabytes start the hard disks, where memory cards just stop. HD camcorders such as the Sony SR 12 or the Canon HG 21 even work at 120 gigabytes - good for over 10 hours of video in the best quality, without having to think about changing a medium.

However, the technology is sometimes sensitive, at altitudes over 3000 meters or with particularly actionful twists a hard disk camcorder is not at all to be used: The hard drive could damage and thus the entire camcorder lamenlegen. However, there is currently no way around the HDD cams for permanent filmmakers.

Nothing is impossible, this Credo has written hybrid camcorders on the flag, which work with at least two, but also three different media. Thus the filmmaker can choose the optimal medium for his purposes. Continuous movies on hard disk, action swap to memory card or memory to share movies directly to the DVD.

In detail, however, this is not always so simple. Some media do not record the best quality, copying from one medium to another is not always possible. Nevertheless, hybrid camcorders are the first choice for filmmakers who want to be prepared for any eventuality.
