Sony HDR-AS 200V in the test

Sony uses an elongated design in contrast to the matchboxing design of the GoPro. There are advantages for the square action cams when you wear them in front of your chest, while the elongated Sony is easier to attach to the helmet at eye level. For Sony enthusiasts the Sony is not suitable, since it allows only 5 meters depth. For this, it has stereo sound and a watertight membrane in front of the microphone openings, which allows the sound to pass better.

The AS 200 has also captured the trend towards more powerful cameras: the new 1 / 2.3 inch sensor with 8.8 megapixels offers only half as much resolution as that of the predecessor AS 100. As there are fewer pixels on the sensor , The pixels can become larger and thus more light-sensitive. This has a positive effect on night shots.

Sony missed the recordings a very flat color profile, which does not look so good when watching directly. In fact, it is an advantage, since in post-processing you can thus significantly influence the individual parameters. If you do not have a diving license and you can do without 4K, the AS-200 is best served.
