Apple: Business offensive with IBM against HP, Dell, Oracle and SAP

Apple plans to attract more business customers in the future and has reorganized its sales team. Already, the alliance concluded with IBM in July 2017 was a clear signal to the competition in the business customer sector and indicated the strategic reorientation of the Palo Alto group.

New sales team for customer acquisition

However, from the cooperation with the American IT company, Apple promises more than one sales market for its iPhones and iPads. Partner companies are committed to delivering support together and driving the development of MobileFirst for iOS apps, cloud services and industry-specific solutions.

Strong competition among major customers

Whether Apple and IBM manage to break the dominance of Hewlett Packard, Dell, Oracle and SAP can not be answered at the moment. After all, with Samsung, Google and Microsoft, three other industry giants have cast their eyes on the business sector, who undoubtedly want to have a word.

Enterprise apps in planning

If you believe a Reuters report, Apple's newly created sales team will make the apps developed with third-party developers to the target audience. The solutions designed for the enterprise sector are to be used, among other things, in the technical field or in the construction sector.

Kinsa Smart Thermometer helps to detect disease waves

The Kinsa Smart Thermometer is connected to the mobile phone via the headphone jack. The temperature is measured classic over the mouth. The collected data are sent to a central collecting point. The data are analyzed anonymously. From this data maps are created, which are to show where fever events occur.

Through the app of Kinsa, the user should be able to follow his or her medical history and send it to a doctor. In addition, the current health situation is displayed in the local environment. These are rampant diseases and symptoms. In addition, the app provides tips on how to protect yourself.

News: Eat healthy with HAPIfork

The application also allows you to create your own groups. For example, parents of a school class can unite and thus track the course of the disease within the class or school. The app does not show who is ill, but only the one disease is in circulation. Parents can therefore take precaution so that their child does not fall ill.

The Kinsa Smart Thermometer draws its current directly from the mobile phone. The measured temperature is not displayed on a separate LCD screen, but on the display of the smartphone. The smart thermometer is expected to be launched in the course of the year and will be available for $ 99.

Still, Kinsa is trying to gain the start-up capital for the market through the Crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. Of the targeted $ 50,000, more than $ 30,000 has already been reached. The collection will run until 15 June 2013.

Ultrabooks with WQHD displays tested: Windows 8.1, Touch-Screen & Co.

We have tested Ultrabooks with WQHD displays: so far, Windows users had to access an Apple notebook if they wanted to enjoy a resolution beyond Full HD. Because the MacBook Pro devices have retina displays, the 13-inch device represents 2560 x 1600 pixels, while the 15-inch version has 2880 x 1800 pixels.

Scaling problems

The four ultrabooks from Dell, Fujitsu, Lenovo and Samsung in this comparison test have even sharper "WQHD +" displays with IPS panels: they deliver at resolutions of 13.3, 14 and 15.6 inches Even 3200 x 1800 pixels. The displays are tested on all four devices in touchscreens, according to the operating system Windows 8.1. The touch capability also means that the bank uses reflective displays, non-reflective touch screens are not available in this high resolution.

Picture gallery

In Windows 7, menus, buttons, and other controls would only appear tiny, and would be hard to operate, and even with Windows 8, the 200 percent scaling required for the resolution would be difficult to access. Windows 8.1, on the other hand, recognizes the high-resolution screens automatically and sets the scaling to 200 percent. Fonts, menus and icons appear on the 3200 display as well as on a panel with 1600 x 900 pixels, only with high-resolution pictures and with fonts much sharper.

Dell XPS 15: The Power Ultrabook with Large Battery

Windows itself and most programs that use Windows standard elements for the graphical interface are easy to scale with. It is different if a software uses a completely self-knit user interface and was not designed for displays with an extremely high resolution. One example is Cyberlink's PowerDirector 10. Such programs can then only be operated with a magnifying glass.

Fujitsu Lifebook U904: Slim business notebook

The XPS 15 from Dell is the largest with its 15.6-inch display and with nearly 2100 euros also the most expensive device in the test. However, the top-of-the-range XPS-15 series we tested is by far the most powerful Ultrabook with Ultra-HD display on the market. The processor is a fast Intel Core i7 with four cores. The GeForce GT 750M features an upper-mid-range Nvidia chip for graphics.

It delivers more than twice the performance of the processor-integrated HD-4400 graphics unit in games; we measure 10528 points in the 3DMark Cloud Gate. In normal operation the economical Intel graphics is active, the switching is done automatically. This also contributes to the good battery life: in the PCMark 8, the 2 kg notebook holds thanks to its large battery four hours and 21 minutes. The memory is generously sized with 16 GB of memory, a 512 GB SSD is installed as mass storage. The expensive SSD partly explains the high price for the Dell XPS 15. The Dell is at the top of the test field with a good 5661 points in the PCMark 7 with the system performance.

The 15.6-inch Sharp display provides very good picture quality, but with lateral view, as well as with the Fujitsu with light yellow. The Samsung displays in Lenovo and Samsung are still slightly better. The aluminum and carbon fiber housing accommodates four USB charging sockets, three of them with USB 3.0 support. Additional monitors can be connected via HDMI and Mini-DisplayPort. There is no LAN connection, the Intel WLAN adapter already has the new 802.11ac standard and additional Bluetooth 4.0.

The keys of the keyboard with background lighting are pleasantly large. The large touchpad in the rubberized palm rest supports as with other devices gestures with up to four fingers.

The Fujitsu Lifebook U904 combines a 14-inch WQHD + display with typical business features. With a thickness of 15.5 millimeters, the 1.39 kg lightweight U904 is the slimmest 14-inch ultrabook on the market, the sturdy housing is made of magnesium. The Core-i7-4600U with two processors can access 10 GB of memory and provides graphics.

In the pre-set energy saving mode, the CPU goes into the high-performance turbo mode for a short time, which automatically boosts the clock frequency. Therefore the Lifebook with 3175 points in the PCMark 7 is even behind the devices with Core i5 processors. If you set the power settings to maximum power, then the Fujitsu in the PCMark 7 comes to significantly better 4852 points.

In the case of 3D performance, the U904 with 3477 points is the final light, with the battery run time with 276 minutes of the top riders in the test field. As our benchmark constantly demands the notebook, the normal battery life is approximately twice as fast as normal work.

With LAN, dual-band WLAN-n, Bluetooth and the LTE radio the 1850 Euro Ultrabook offers the complete range of communication interfaces. In addition, there are two USB 3.0 ports and one HDMI jack in full format on board. With the keyboard with background lighting, the large cursors are fancy, the key stroke is quite small with about 1.5 millimeters. As with the Dell, a large touchpad with multi-touch function is built in.

The name Yoga is with the 13.3-inch Yoga 2 Pro from Lenovo program: The display can be folded by a double hinge on the back of the chassis, the Yoga turns into a tablet. There are also two stand-up and tent modes for the Lenovo hybrid ultrabook, such as for reading or watching movies. The content of the display is automatically adjusted by means of the position sensor. In addition, all sensors commonly used on tablets are also on board.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro: Hybrid Interactive Ultrabook

The 13.3-inch IPS panel comes from Samsung and provides very good picture quality. With a weight of 1.4 kg, yoga can still be used in tablet mode, the illuminated keyboard turns off when the display is rotated by more than 180 degrees.

In the flat orange-colored chassis of the test device, or alternatively there is the device also in decent gray, works an Intel Core i5-4200U as a processor. He also takes over the graphic representation. Despite eight GB of RAM and a 256-GB SSD, the price for the test device is comparatively moderate at almost 1300 Euros. At the interfaces, one was economical: In addition to the cardreader, there are two USB sockets, only one of which is USB 3.0 capable, and a micro HDMI output. The wireless n-adapter with built-in Bluetooth module works only on the densely occupied 2.4 GHz band.

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus: Ultra-HD in the Ultimate Ultrabook

In the performance measurements the Yoga 2 Pro makes a decent figure: with 4699 points in the PCMark 7, it is behind the Dell in the second place in the system performance, the 3DMark is slightly slower than the same CPU equipped Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus. In the battery life, the Lenovo hybrid occupies 230 minutes in the PCMark 8, but in practice you can work with it for about seven hours.

With a weight of just three kilograms, the superschlanke Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus is the light weight of the notebooks with ultra-HD display. The very good 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen comes from the same company, it is the same as the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

In the only 13.6 millimeter high but still stiff aluminum housing is an Intel Core i5-4200U, the same CPU as in Lenovo. However, the memory and the SSD are only half the capacity compared to yoga with four and 128 GB. Nevertheless, the Samsung with 1550 euro even more expensive.

Conclusion

The recharge time is tidy with 265 minutes. The key stroke of the keyboard with backlighting is short, the tapping by the good layout but pleasant. In addition to two USB 3.0 sockets in normal size, Samsung has the other ports only in mini format housed in the thin aluminum body, for the Gbit LAN Port is an adapter, not for the Micro HDMI jack. The WLAN n controller supports both frequency bands.

In principle, all four Ultrabooks with Ultra-HD display are recommended in the test, also because they appeal to different users. The test winner from Dell is particularly interesting for buyers who are looking for a very good performance and do not interfere with the weight and the price. The Fujitsu can offer business features and the mobile data transmission LTE. For the Samsung Ultrabook, de-sign-conscious buyers can inspire, even if memory and SSD are somewhat more narrowly dimensioned. The Lenovo Yoga is great for anyone looking for an ultrabook that can turn into a tablet. In addition, it is comparatively cheap with almost 1300 euros.

IT pioneer and mouse inventor: Douglas Engelbart died

As Cnet reports, the inventor of the mouse – Douglas Engelbart – died last night of renal failure. He said that he had fallen asleep peacefully, according to his daughter Cristina, who confirmed the death of her father. Earlier, it was known that Engelbart was in poor health. He leaves his wife and four children.

Picture gallery

Engelbart was born as the middle child of three siblings in Portland, Oregon. Already in the early 1960s, he developed the first computer mouse as an X-Y position indicator for a screen system. This mouse was made of wood and consisted of a rotary knob and a key.

Engelbart was awarded three times for his outstanding research and its results: 1997 with the Turning Award, 1999 with the John von Neumann Medal. In 2000 he was finally honored by Bill Clinton with the National Medal of Technology. This is one of the highest awards in the US.

After a fulfilling life in which he studied electrical engineering and computer science, led numerous, today essential, researches and also introduced the idea of an Internet build-up and the first videoconference, the genius from Oregon is now death. What remains is his already warning that the computer might make it possible to manipulate information.

Sony Alpha 7, Alpha 7R & Alpha 7S in comparison

With the three mirrorless Sony A7 series cameras, Sony proves that the advantages of a large full-format sensor can be realized with a 475 g lightweight, 4.8 cm slim system camera housing. A7, A7R and A7S are the same as each other, the same as the other, differed primarily by their nominal resolution and the autofocus: the best in the trio, the A7 for around 1500 euros, works with 24 megapixels and a hybrid autofocus Code>

Housing

The Alpha 7R for around 2100 euros is Sony's specialist for high resolution, with 36-megapixel sensor without low-pass filter an interesting, much more compact and cheaper alternative to the D810. It does not, however, like the A7 on a hybrid, but on a contrast autofocus. The same applies to the third party, the A7S for around 2400 euros. As a full-size camera with only 12 megapixels, it is a perfect counterpole to the A7R and promises outstanding picture quality in low light and high ISO settings up to ISO 409 600 - the goals they have with the two professional housings Canon EOS-1D X and Nikon D4s

Searcher and Monitor

The innovative, junior A7er system still has a catch: At the moment, there are only five full-size E-mount lenses, the FE 3.5-5.6 / 28-70 mm, the Zeiss Sonnar T * The Zeiss Vario-Tessar T * FE 4 / 24-70 mm ZA OSS and the FE 4 / 70-200 mm G OSS At prices between 500 and 1500 euros. Of course, all other E-bayonet lenses (formerly known as NEX) calculated for APS-C models can also be used, but the three full-format cameras then switch to the APS-C format according to the picture circle and reduce the resolution. A-bayonet lenses (the former Minolta bayonet) can only be connected via the optional adapter LA-EA4 (about 350 euros).

Autofocus and Performance

The housing, which is made mainly of magnesium alloy, measures only 3.3 cm without or 4.8 cm with the slip-resistant coated handle. The Alpha is comfortable to hold and to handle, because it weighs only 620 with the fixed focal length FE 2,8 / 35 mm, with the kit zoom FE 3,5-5,6 / 28-70 mm only 764 g . Based on the SLR design, the alphas have their viewfinder bobbins directly above the optical axis, although this is an electronic viewfinder that is independent of the position.

Exposure Metering

Although Sony completes the case, the splash protection on the battery and memory card bay is less trustworthy than on the EOS-1D X, D4s, D810 and Df. SDHC / XC or MS-Pro-Duo cards serve as storage media. There is no flash-out flash and sensor-shift image stabilizer.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the A7er series is the weak battery NP-FW50, which with 1080 mAh according to the CIPA standard is only for 340 (A7, A7R) and 380 shots per load (A7S), who shoots with an electronic viewfinder, Must have an even shorter runtime. To recharge the A7 and the A7R is a power supply without charging indicator, the A7S additionally a decent battery charger. Practical: All three alphas have integrated the WLAN / NFC module for wireless data transmission in the housing.

Unlike Canon and Nikon, Sony has an adjustable monitor in its three full-size cameras: it can be turned 90 degrees upwards and about 45 degrees downwards - this does not help for self-portraits, but in the case of overhead and ground-level recordings And especially when shooting. With 307,200 RGB pixels, the display provides a decent picture, but it loses quality relatively quickly in the sunlight and from the side.

As soon as the eye sensor detects an object in its vicinity, the alphas automatically switch from the monitor to the viewfinder mode. On the one hand practical, sometimes however also disturbing: The cameras respond thereby very sensitive and leave often also the monitor display disappear, if one one of the neighboring controls.

Alternatively, the photographer can disable the eye sensor in the Finder / Monitor system menu and manually switch from the monitor to the large, high-resolution 100% viewfinder with an effective 0.71x magnification. Compared to the clear, clean image of a SLR-Pentaprismaucher, a slight flicker and minimal jerking in the camera pan is noticed here. To do this, the live view image includes an exposure preview and allows manual focus through the viewfinder.

While Sony considers the two more expensive models 7R and 7S with a 25-field contrast autofocus, an additional 117-point phase detection at the recording sensor is added in the Alpha 7. It is not a matter of course that this hybrid solution is able to increase its tempo with good light conditions: at 1000 lux, it dissipated in the laboratory after 0.29 s, the 7R needed 0.44 s, and the 7S again longer Code>

In the case of low ambient light, on the other hand, the 7S is 0.46 s ahead, followed by the A7 with 0.73 s and the A7R with disappointing 0.81 s. The switch-on delay is also 1.8 (A7) to 2.5 s A7S) are too long, and the sonys do not just glow with a fade speed of 3.6 (A7R), 4.5 (A7) and 5.0 B / s (A7S). The autofocus can be configured in a variety of ways.

In addition to the automatic measuring field, there is, for example, a spot measurement, the AF point of which can be displaced with the thumb (horizontal) and pointer finger (vertically) on the image field and can be increased or decreased in three steps by rotating the four-directional switch wheel. There is also a facial and a three-step adjustable smile recognition. In manual focusing, a magnifying glass view and a focus peaking function can be provided on request. Although the Sonys does not fold a mirror, the sound is comparatively noisy, especially the A7R.

The exposure metering is carried out on 1200 zones with a measuring sensitivity range from EV0 to EV20 (A7, A7R) or EV3 to EV20 (A7S). In addition, fast shutter speeds of up to 1/8000 s and a flash sync time of 1/250 s (A7, A7S) or 1/160 s (A7R) are supported. In addition to the modes Auto, P, A, S and M, nine motif programs are available, including one for portrait, sports and macro shooting. In addition, there are setup options such as panpanorama and two user-defined program memories on the mode dial.

Video function

As the only candidates in this test, the Sony-Vollformater the focus during the filming quite inconspicuously and more accurate. They also adapted the exposure for us to a large extent, without disturbing brightness changes, provided the conditions did not change too quickly. Practically also, that the video recording can be started easily by push-button printing and the manually adjusted recording parameters remain effective. The dedicated video mode is only needed to control the sound in 32 levels and to display the level in the thumbnail.

The films of the A7S are sharp, natural, hardly rushing and show quite a good dynamics. Compared to this, the A7R's videos show more noise and artifacts, and the A7 also makes a fuzzy impression. As a special feature, the A7S can create high-resolution 4K videos with 3840 x 2160 pixels and uncompressed in XAVC-S format with 4: 2: 2 color scanning via an external 4K recorder to hard disk. A compressed output of the 4K files on memory cards is not provided.

Operating concept

Inputs are made exclusively using classic controls, there is no touch screen, but a whole series of setting wheels. Among them are the non-lockable mode and the detent exposure correction wheel with a setting range of -3 to +3 stops. The dialwheels on the front and rear of the case, which are easy to reach for index fingers and thumbs, as well as the somewhat too easy to handle knurling wheel integrated into the 4-way switch, are multifunctional, depending on the shooting mode, among other things, for setting program shift, ISO number, or aperture Shutter speed, moreover, for efficient navigation in the menu and for changing the recording parameters in the fast menu (Fn-key)

If you want to ensure that these wheels do not move unnoticed during transport, you can temporarily deactivate them by pressing the Fn button longer - provided the "Controller / wheel lock" is switched on in the system menu, the mode and exposure compensation wheel remain unaffected by the lock Code>

Winner after points is the Sony-comparison the 36-megapixel model A7R. Their measured resolution is between 2553 (ISO 100) and 1962 LP / BH (ISO 12 800) - higher than that of Nikon's 36-megapixel Pendant D810. The high dead-leaved values are due, among other things, to artificially intensified color contrasts and therefore lead to point deduction (2348 to 1551 LP / BH)

Image quality

Conclusion

Despite this, the A7R delivers relatively moderate texture losses up to ISO 3200, an exceptionally weak noise (0.4 to 1.0 VN from ISO 100 to 12 800) and a high dynamic range, which still has 10.0 stops even at ISO 1600 , A head-to-head race with the outstanding D810. The A7S keeps the resolution relatively constant over the entire measured ISO range, reaching only 12 megapixels but a maximum of 1286 LP / BH.

On the other hand, it shines with exceptionally weak texture losses (kurtosis 0.1 to 0.5 at ISO 100 to 6400), a low visual noise (0.6 to 1.5 VN) and good dynamics (9.7 to 9.0 stops) At ISO 3200 to 12 800). This makes it one of the best full-formaters currently available in the market at higher ISO 1600 sensitivities. In the A7S, diffraction losses occur only at diaphragm 13.8. With 24 megapixels the A7 chooses a solid medium path between A7R and A7S: up to 1917 LP / BH limit resolution, which fits, especially in combination with the good texture, dynamics and the weak noise in the range of ISO 100 to 800 >

The three Sony full-featured models set a whole lot of different accents: the A7R, with 36 megapixels, exorbitantly sharp images at low to medium ISO values and thus Nikon's D810 perhaps some potential buyers wanting to go on the road a light but powerful camera. Buytipp image quality!

The 12-megapixel variant A7S scores in the upper sensitivity range with particularly good fine-tuning and dynamics. The A7 is the all-rounder in the Alpha team, the most favorable model of the entire test field and still at the forefront with the picture quality. Purchase price. As criticisms remain the still clear lens offer, the weak battery and the long switch-on as well as triggering delay in weak light

5 Color Laser Multifunction Devices - OKI MC342W

Simple operation, excellent print quality, a wide range of paper and copying options as well as the extensive connectivity options make the All-in-One the ideal document tool for small workgroups

Part 5: Wedding with Word

Of course, your wedding newspaper should not only contain texts – as funny as they may be, so boringly looks a newspaper without pictures. So build a few pictures. As with any good newspaper, you place a large picture on the first page. While this is still quite easy with the command “Insert / Graphics”, we show you how you can compile pictures to a photo lovestory. In all of these steps, you will mainly use the Draw toolbar.

The photos in your photo-lovestory should all be in uniform frames. For example, select a rounded rectangle or heart. To do this, click the AutoForm menu item in the Drawing toolbar. In the following sub-menu under "Standard shapes", select the desired shape by mouse click.

Click the right mouse button to open the context menu and select the "Format AutoForm" entry.

In the following dialog, click on the "Color" field in the "Colors and Lines" tab. In the drop-down menu, select the "Fill effects" entry.

In the dialog of the same name, switch to the "Graphics" tab and click the "Select graphic" button. In the next dialog box, locate the desired graphic in the correct folder.

Confirm with "OK" to return to the "Format Autoform" dialog. This created mask is provided with a frame line after the default setting. To edit these, select the appropriate color in the Format AutoShape dialog box under Line in the Color box. Then, in the "Thickness" field, adjust the thickness of the line. Enter the value 3 here.

Click the "OK" button to fit the graphic into the car shape and add the frame.

In order for the frame to get the same size for the next photo and the same frame line, double the frame with the inserted picture with the command "Ctrl" + "D". Place the second frame next to the first and press the key combination again ("Ctrl" + "D"). Repeat the above steps to include other images.

Cambridge Audio Minx Air 200 review

The wireless loudspeaker is convincing thanks to its seamless and elegant design. If the somewhat cumbersome AirPlay setup works, the speaker fulfills the room with a natural sound. When playing the bass, the Minx might give you some more power.

When you lift up the wireless speaker, you can quickly find that technology has to be plugged into this device. The Minx Air 200 is therefore not suitable for carrying the loudspeaker into the next hotel room.

Five new hard drive recorders from Samsung

The top-of-the-line BD-8909S features a 1TB hard drive, which allows you to see a different program parallel to the recording, thanks to a second tuner. The user is centrally managed via a user interface: With Smart Hub, users can search for content on the Internet or in the home network. With the wireless transmission to other devices in the home, content can be viewed in different places.

All recorders have an electronic program guide (EPG) as well as a Hyper Real Engine. The latter is responsible for sharp contours, deep blacks and rich colors. The BD-D8509S is equipped with the same functions as the BD-D8909S, but has a smaller hard disk (500GB memory). However, external hard disks can be connected via a USB connection and the recording capacity can be increased. The entry level BD-D8200 differs from its larger brothers only in the hard disk capacity of 250GB. Prices (RRP) and availability

The Philips 221EL2

In design, the Philips 221EL2 is a feast for the eyes. Philips uses the advantages of LEDs and gives the device a particularly slim design: The frame measures no two centimeters at the upper edge. It also looks very good in the operation.

Philips 221EL2

Philips rejects all prejudices against touch-sensitive controls: the keys respond exactly and without delay. Unfortunately, you do not get luxurious OSD operation like the Samsung monitor, you lose the overview quickly in the menu.

Picture gallery

When measuring in the laboratory, the uneven illumination of the screen is revealed. Noticeable the poor lateral viewing angle: With no other test candidate it so quickly to contrast loss and color contamination. After all, the Philips 221EL2 compensates with a low maximum power consumption of 19.3 watts.

Caution with blanks

Tip 4/5: Cleaning and Security

Caution with blanks

Arno Weger from kdg mediascope white Advice: "First of all, you should visually inspect the information surface, then clean the dirt with warm soaps and gently wipe it with a soft cloth, other possibilities do not exist. This is why Weger's practical advice is: "If possible, always make a security scan."

Tip 6: Labeling of blanks

Sandra Fritzsch recommends: "A dirty CD or DVD can be carefully cleaned in order to be readable again, but with a little pressure and above all, never wipe it in the circular direction, but radially from the inside out!" >

Tip 7: The Right Storage

In contrast to Kollegeweger, the MPO specialist considers the use of commercially available liquid cleaners as useful, but at the same time restricts them: "Never use gasoline, paint thinners, antistatic or conventional LP cleaning agents."

Conclusion

Ergo: If you follow the advice of the two experts, you should have a lot of fun with your purchased movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

But what about the so-called "leermedia", ie (re) writable blanks, on which one as a user even movies, music or other data burns? Are there significant differences to the recorded disc? "Yes, they exist," says Sandra Fritzsch. "The layer, which allows the data to be stored later, is, as it were, also sensitive to light, so to speak, so be careful when storing it.

MPO has, however, developed high-quality alternatives in the field of leech media, which, according to Fritzsch, have "a very good protection against harmful UV exposure: the black-colored CD-R and the CD-R Gold, which have a lower light sensitivity due to their layer composition" .

Please also note the following for the blanks: Labeling may only be carried out on the printed side by means of a felt tip pen. "Scratching writing tools such as pencils, ball-point pens or similar can lead to damage - adhesive labels lead to imbalance of the disc," emphasizes the Cologne expert.

Arno Weger, however, explains the technical differences between recorded and unplayed discs in detail: "In the case of recorded media, information is injection molded into the plastic, which means that the information level consists of pits in the plastic Of the laser and thus the two states zero and one.

In the case of CD-R / DVD-R, the reading of zero and one is not produced by recesses, but by the two dye polymer coatings, amorphous' and 'crystalline'. The dye-polymer layer is basically amorphous in the undefined slice. When firing, the laser changes the information units (pits) into a crystalline state.

The crystalline layer thus reflects the laser light while the amorphous layer absorbs the light. This results in the two states zero and one. Direct sun exposure and high temperature differences should therefore be avoided with CD-Rs / DVD-Rs.

To what extent there is a limited lifespan for the silverlings, the experts prefer to be silent. But whether 15, 20 or 30 years of durability - for every buyer and user: whoever loves his discs, he cares.

Only a carefree handling of DVDs or Blu-rays can lead to damage or errors during playback. The practice tips from the experts show that it is relatively easy to avoid anger.

Dell Latitude 7370 review

The WD15 docking station of the Dell Latitude 7370 will cost you about 200 euros extra.

Conclusion

Dell's Latitude 7370 is only 14 millimeters high, and its solid aluminum and carbon fiber housing occupies only the surface of a 12 inch subnotebook. Nevertheless, Dell packs a 13.3-inch display into the 1.25-kg lightweight. The trick: the display frame reduces Dell to a few millimeters and thus saves space. It also makes colors look surprisingly crisp and bright for a matt display.

Dell Latitude 7370: Specifications

Disadvantage of the ultra compact design: only one card reader, one USB 3.0 and two Thunderbolt / USB 3.1 ports (Type C) are installed. Wireless interfaces include WLAN-ac, Bluetooth and UMTS / LTE.

Lesetipp

If you need more interfaces, the docking station WD15 for around 200 euros. The performance of the extremely quiet Latitude is easy enough for business software despite the power saving optimized Intel m5-6Y57. Especially the extremely fast 256 GB SSD (1,138 MByte / s on average) makes the Business-Ultrabook a good PCMark-8 value of 2.275 points.

Nevertheless, the Latitude in the Battery Test of the PCMark 8 comes only to a satisfactory 236 minutes. The relatively small 34-Wh battery of the expensive business ultrabook does not produce more.

If you can afford the costly Latitude 7370, you get a fast and excellently processed business Ultabook with top display. Only a few interfaces, a relatively small battery and only a satisfactory runtime are however associated with the ultracompact dimensions.

Youtube alternative with more revenue: Yahoo plans video platform

A new Yahoo video portal is to become an alternative and competition to Youtube. For the time being, however, only known users, who are successful on Youtube, can upload their videos. The youtube stars are lured with better merit than the competitor. Higher proportions of advertising revenues or fixed ad prices are only two of the advantages. A first step has already been done and one or the other star is already in discussion.

As a matter of principle, Yahoo hopes to significantly increase revenues through advertising and thus have the opportunity to pass on a larger portion of it to users. This is precisely the problem with the competitor Youtube.

Many users are dissatisfied with their reports and comments. This could lead to a change to the new video platform of Yahoo as lucrative. Through marketing campaigns of the new video platform, one hopes to increase the popularity level quickly and win new revenue-generating users.

Android Antivirus Test 2017: The top apps in comparison

We have the best anti-virus apps for Android in the test – but at the beginning the question arises: is an antivirus app on Android at all necessary? Anyone who does not have a powerful virus scanner on his PC is negligent. On this point the experts agree. On Android devices this is different: Here there is a lively discussion as to whether a virus scanner is necessary at all.

Security built in

Adrian Ludwig, Google's Android security officer, said in an interview, for example, that virus scanners on Android devices are unnecessary. However, you should refer to your apps from the Google Play store. The programs offered there would have already gone through the best possible security tests.

Scanner nevertheless makes sense

Google also delivers the numbers that underpin this view. In 2017, search engine grammes would have detected potentially dangerous programs (potentially programs) on less than one percent of the mobile devices under investigation. "Potentially dangerous" does not even mean malware, that is, programs that lock the phone or read out bank data. Spyware, for example, that spies "only" personal data of the user, is also part of it.

Avast Mobile Security

Even better, it looked at devices, only apps from the Google Play Store running: only 0.15 percent are here with PHA burdened. This is due to the strict test criteria for the official Google app platform. These were even exacerbated in 2017.

Avira Antivirus Security Pro

In addition, the Android operating system has built a series of security features. This is, for example, the option "Scan device after security threats" (Google Settings / Security) or in English: Verify apps that work like a virus scanner. It is available on all devices with Android 2.3 and higher.

Lesetipp: Android Tablet and smartphone secure against malware, viruses and more

In addition, there is Android Safety Net, which tests a device for security problems. For example, if a Safety Net phone is classified as unsafe, certain applications deny the installation. Another security feature is the operating system itself. Android runs all apps in a sandbox (sandbox), so they are shielded from each other. If multiple apps work with the same data, the owner must allow this. You probably know this procedure from the permissions that must be accepted when you install an app.

Is everything safe in this healing Google world? If you look at the Kaspersky report from the second quarter of 2017, more than half of the popular malicious programs are adware (ad programs) and risk tools. Risk tools are programs that do not cause direct damage, but represent, for example, a risk to the privacy of the user. This also does not seem to be alarming.

On the other hand, security providers point to a high number of malicious programs. For example, according to the Internet Security Threat Report 2017, Symantec analyzed 6.3 million apps in 2017 and classified 2.3 million of them as malware. In 2017 alone, Symantec counted more than 46 new malware families.

The weaknesses of the Android operating system are also causing concern. In a study titled "Security Metrics for the Android Ecosystem", the University of Cambridge shows that 87.7 percent of all Android devices, ie almost 90 percent, have security gaps.

The figures show that there is quite a threat. However, anyone who has his or her Apps only from the Google Play Store, does not have a rooted device, and has switched on all security functions, can still feel safe. It is quite dangerous to get software from third-party sites or to have root access to its device. Then a security solution is urgently needed as in our test.

Now to the individual antivirus apps in the test.

Bitdefender Mobile Security

The most striking feature of Avast Mobile Security is its extensive Anti-Theft module. Besides the usual functions like device location, blocking and alarm, it offers a number of extras. With the so-called Geo-Fencing, the phone gets an electronic foot-restraint by GPS. If the device leaves its assigned area, the software triggers a user-defined function. For example, the unit is locked, or an alarm sound is heard. You can also call the stolen phone secretly and listen to the thief. If necessary, the software also makes a photo of the potential robber with the built-in camera.

The other functions can also be seen. For example, you can have statistics on the traffic of apps running on the phone. Avast Mobile Security also shows which apps have critical access rights, such as access to system settings or private contacts.

G Data Internet Security

A unique feature in the test field is the verification of the used WLAN networks on security problems such as weak encryption. It is astonishing that this feature does not include features for child safety.

Unfortunately, the attractive security suite can not keep up with the top group with an absolutely good detection rate of 99.9 percent and four false alarms.

As a user, one expects that a security software warns of imminent dangers. This is precisely what Avira Antivirus Security Pro does with identity protection. The user gets warnings about mail providers who have been victims of a hacker attack in the past.

Conclusion

Expert opinion on the test

Lesetipp

Otherwise the program offers a clean surface of standard food, as far as the functions are concerned. The paid pro version warns against phishing and malware sites, you can block calls and SMS from specific numbers, and the app Avira Android Optimizer deletes data garbage and keeps the system memory free.

Of course, there are also functions to lock a lost mobile phone remotely, retrieve it by alarm sound or GPS, or delete all important data.

The program showed minor weaknesses in the virus detection rate. Here, with 99.9 per cent and three false alarms, it is just behind the front runners. It is worth mentioning that the free version of Avira Antivirus Security Pro is already very well-equipped against the costly variant.

Bitdefender Mobile Security is the only package in the test, which also provides features for Android Wear products. For example, the smartwatch will issue an alarm when the associated smartphone is out of reach.

Another strength of Bitdefender is the free tools. With ParentalControl and Parental Advisor, the user receives functions for child protection. Power Tune-up clears the Android device, and Clueful Privacy scans the tablet or smartphone for overly curious apps and other privacy risks - all these add-ons are free.

The blocking function for apps has been successfully implemented to protect it against misuse. If an unauthorized user enters the incorrect PIN three times, he is automatically photographed. In trusted networks, on the other hand, app blocking is automatically canceled if desired.

In terms of performance, Bitdefender is ranked second (59 out of 60 points) with a 100 percent detection rate and three false alarms together with GData Internet Security.

G Data Internet Security is immaculate when detecting viruses at 100 percent detection rate. Three false alarms are moderate.

However, the first contact with G Data does not leave a good impression. The program inquires whether the company may use the user's data for advertising purposes. While it is nice to be asked, this still leaves a bland taste for a security software with comprehensive access rights.

The handling of the app itself is more enjoyable. The Security Center guides the user through all tasks. In addition to functions like call filter, web filter, theft protection as well as access restrictions, there are nice extras. There would be, for example, child protection along with a child browser and a "Panic Button". This is a widget that sends a notification and location information to an emergency contact after tapping.

Calls and SMS messages can not be blocked globally. The user can limit the blockade to specific times, thus providing a quiet working afternoon.

Unlike the PC version with its many features, the Android version of Kaspersky Internet Security offers basic features that you expect from a mobile security package. The user can lock the device via the Web or via SMS commands and delete his private data. There is a web filter against phishing, it can also block phone calls from certain phone numbers and investigate incoming SMS for dangerous content. If you are using a device with a SIM card, Kaspersky Internet Security protects your contacts against unauthorized access.

Anyone who knows the PC version of the program will quickly get warm with the Android sibling. For new users, however, please take a look at the manual. The menus are quite nested, and it takes some time to review the interplay of the security features. Also the different options are not necessarily self-explanatory.

At the detection rate, the Android version of the Kaspersky suites is the last 99.7 percent in the test field. She did not make any false alarms.

Trend Micro Mobile Security & Antivirus provides users with the ability to scan applications from the Google Play store for malicious software before they are installed on the device. For this, the software builds a VPN connection to Trend Micro and analyzes the downloaded program. However, this does not work on all devices. The manufacturer also warns against a slowdown in the Internet connection through this feature.

With 100 percent detection rate without false alarms, the Trend Micro product leads the test field. The app trumps next to the virus scan before installation with further special features. For example, it controls the privacy settings of the user at Facebook. You can also check all installed apps for privacy risks.

Lesetipp: The best antivirus programs 2017

There are also settings for system tuning. For example, Mobile Security & Antivirus cleans the system memory, uninstalls unneeded apps and deletes the history data of the web browser. There is also an online backup feature. However, in the free version, you have just 50 MB of cloud storage available.

The test results in Trend Micro with excellent scan results and a clearer surface. G Data and BitDefender also receive very good marks in the protection from pests. As good and cheap Avira shows, with good scanner and useful equipment.

Really cautious users may not necessarily need an Android virus scanner. If you believe the statistics of Google and the large anti-virus vendors, the risk of infection is relatively low for European users - assuming you do not download risk apps from third-party stores. Relatively low is not a risk.

For this reason you should consider the use of an anti-virus software. But there is another side of the coin: a good theft protection, child protection, protection from phishing pages and a filter for annoying phone numbers and SMS messages can be used by everyone.

Our test method for mobile internet security suites

The independent and renowned test institute AV-Comparatives has examined the anti-virus engines of our test candidates for the PC magazine. For the comparison, the experts collected 2,365 current malware applications. Further apps from the Google and third-party shops were added to check the engines for false alarms. All tests were performed on smartphones with internet connection and without emulator.

We have weighted and evaluated the offered functions for the equipment rating. When operating, the programs should provide the user with an understandable menu system without interleaving submenus. Even menus with non-meaning names and a colorful function mix led to depreciation.

Chromecast and Microsoft Display Adapter in comparison

We compared Chromecast and the Microsoft Display Adapter: Google’s streaming-stick Chromecast enjoys uninterrupted popularity. No wonder, finally, the accessory, which turns every HD TV into a full-fledged streaming receiver in just a few minutes, costs just 35 euros. But now the Google accessory gets a lot of competition. With the Wireless Display Adapter, Microsoft has introduced a device that offers a similar range of functions but is twice as expensive.

Installation: No major differences

In our comparison, we are comparing Chromecast and the display adapter to

Furnishings: With WLAN or without

The installation of the two devices is the same: both Chromecast and the Microsoft Display Adapter are first connected to a free HDMI port on the TV. Both devices are powered by the USB port. If the TV does not have a USB port, as is the case with older models, the Microsoft Display Adapter can not be used. However, Chromecast does not know this limitation. The dongle has an additional adapter, which allows the Google accessories to be connected to the socket. A great plus.

Operation: With or without Apps

The Microsoft Display Adapter is clearly advantageous when you first start up, since the use of additional software is not required. And since the connection between adapter and device is directly established, this works independently of WLAN and Internet connection. If the unit is connected to the HDTV or AV receiver, it is sufficient to select the settings for PC and devices / screen / With wireless display device on a notebook or tablet equipped with Windows 8.1 Br>

Compatibility: There is still a lot to do

In the next page, select Add Wireless Display. The Microsoft adapter that is connected to the Windows device is then listed under Devices / Projectors. Optionally, the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter can be installed from the Windows Store in order to adapt adapter settings and to protect the contact between the adapter and computer with a PIN. The first-time setup of the Google add-on is significantly more time-consuming and requires WLAN and Internet access.

First, you need to install and start the free app Google Chromeecast on your Android or iOS device. If the configuration is to be made via the PC, the Chrome browser must be installed. Then connect the device to the WLAN built by Chromecast to perform the basic configuration. In the last step, you'll add Google Accessories to your home Wi-Fi.

Chromecast is based on the in-house transmission method, while the Microsoft adapter is based on Miracast. The difference between the two variants: While Microsoft brings the entire screen space 1: 1 to the screen and thus makes each HD-enabled device a second monitor, Chromecast is dependent on apps. Although the direct screen transmission of Android devices works, however, the function is still in beta.

Lesetipp: Use TV as a PC monitor

So if you want to play a YouTube video, a Netflix movie or a video file stored on the network, you must start the app and press the Chromecast button. The PC screen can also be transferred using the Chrome browser. In practice, however, this works more badly than right. By the way, both adapters support resolutions up to a maximum of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

In terms of compatibility, none of the adapters can fully convince, but not to Google and Microsoft, but to the manufacturers of other devices, the Chromecast and Miracast only inadequately integrate. Chromecast is supported by Android 2.3. In addition, devices equipped with iOS 7.0 or later are also capable of contacting Google Accessories. However, the selection of apps for iPhone and iPad is manageable. Miracast is tightly integrated with Windows 8.1 so that all devices equipped with this operating system can be connected to the Wireless Display Adapter at the factory.

The same is true for notebooks that support the Intel Wireless Display technology. It looks much leaner on the side of the smartphone support: Just a handful of Nokia Lumia devices with Windows Phone 8.1 can be used as a player. Interesting detail: Some Android smartphones and tablets also support Miracast, which has been integrated into the Google operating system since version 4.2.1

Our comparison test shows that Chromecast is and remains the first choice when it comes to streaming in the home WLAN. The transfer of the screen space from Android devices and PCs to the TV works, but leaves a lot to be desired in practice.

Clearly for the Microsoft adapter speak two factors: First, it does not need WLAN, so it can be used everywhere. On the other hand, it transfers the screen resolution 1: 1 to the HD device, which should not only appeal to business users who present the Powerpoint presentation. Gamers may also like to enjoy their favorite games on the 50-inch TV.

ADATA SE730 test: Mini SSD with USB 3.1 interface

The ADATA SE730 is an external mini-SSD with USB 3.1 interface.

Conclusion

The external SSD drive SE730 from ADATA is 36 grams and only 74 millimeters one of the most compact storage you can carry with you. The SE730 is available in the colors gold and red. But that is not the special thing. The golden jewelery box is certified according to the militarily standard IP68. It is protected against dust, dirt and water. Even a water bath of up to 60 minutes and a depth of 1.5 meters is said to be faultless. Your data should be protected from the weather.

However, your fingernails are less secure. The plastic cover, which covers the USB 3.1 Type C connector, fits properly - a strong thumb nail is an advantage.

In the test lab we determine proper values. The promised 500 Mbyte / s from the advertising brochure while reading and writing are not achieved - but so far, however, no single mobile SSD over USB, which has been tested in our company. Sequentially, the SE730 reads 240 and writes to 297 Mbyte / s.

Lesetipp: SSD myths and really helpful tips

The 4K transfer is 22 or 46 Mbyte / s, which is a good value. We calculate the peak value for writing with the ATTO benchmark with 8 MBytes of large files and a read rate of 320 MByte / s. The access time during reading is somewhat disappointing with 0.173 milliseconds, but very good 0.055 ms is achieved when writing. Also the heat development is relatively high, we measure an increase at full load of about 14 degrees Celsius above the ambient temperature.

The ADATA delivers good, standard performance data, but with heavy use it is a little more than hand warm. The great advantage of this mobile SSD is protection against dust and water.

Speakers and AV receivers in the home cinema

The good sound is the salt in the soup of a home theater. Only when image and sound perfectly match, a film becomes a sense experience. The loudspeakers and amplifiers, which surround the listener with an encircling sound of the room, are integrated into the cinematic process. Thanks to the modern technology, today there are different ways to get a sense of space in your own four walls. Depending on the purpose, the purse and the space available, individual solutions are available, which video presents in the following.

Small box sets for small rooms

If you set up your living room cinema, you should be aware of the amount of space you can use. So it does not make a 16 square meter small room full of loudspeakers and large subwoofers. Not only the roommate makes a dash through the bill, but also the acoustics. Because: the smaller the space, the more vulnerable it is for low-frequency drone effects.

The receiver as the central

Practice: Home cinema - planning and room selection

The right loudspeaker

Here is a compact loudspeaker set or a soundbar the better choice. If the living space is larger, an extended boxing system is suitable. This can consist of up to nine speakers plus subwoofer. It should, however, be borne in mind that a powerful multi-channel set can become quite cost-intensive. Speakers, amplifiers, Blu-ray players and cabling quickly devour a few thousand euros. However, such projects are rewarded with an excellent sound quality.

Soundbars

The multi-channel amplifier, also known as an AV receiver, is the switching center of a home cinema. From here, sources such as Blu-ray players and satellite receivers are managed and sound settings are made. In order for an amplifier to be able to convert the multichannel data streams coming from the input device, it must have the appropriate room sound decoder.

On the DVD successor medium Blu-ray high resolution sound format standards of Dolby and DTS are used. With a high bit depth and sampling rate, they offer better sound quality than their predecessor codecs. In order to hear the difference, however, you need high quality speakers and powerful amplifiers.

In addition to the audio functions, modern AV receivers are home to a videosection. For example, picture and sound signals can be received simultaneously from the source device via a single line (HDMI) and forwarded to the TV. Depending on the room size and box selection, the amplifier should provide enough power reserves. In this case: rather too much power than too little.

Buying advice: The best surround receiver

Many devices have a network connection via cable or even radio. They offer access to thousands of internet radio stations. They also allow you to play music from a network store or computer. Some manufacturers use Apple's AirPlay technology in their devices.

Then, music can be wirelessly transferred from the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the AV receiver. So that one with so much functionality does not lose the overview, the receivers should be easy to operate. Modern amplifiers therefore offer a graphical screen menu, which allows you to change all settings and display them.

Download: Room sound systems

The sound quality stands and falls with the loudspeakers. With no other audio component the money invested makes itself more noticeable. Therefore, the right selection should be given the utmost attention. If the budget is limited, less is more. Dear five good than seven moderate speakers. As a rule of thumb, you should spend at least as much on the box set as for amplifiers, Blu-ray players, and cabling.

If you prefer discreet cabling and have little space at your disposal, you can use Soundbars. These narrow soundbars usually have a stereophonic loudspeaker system and are operated directly under the TV. The built-in amplifier and surround decoder allow Blu-ray players and TV receivers to be connected directly to the system.

2.1 Speaker Set

Buying advice: The best soundbars

The spatial sound is generated by the use of special algorithms. For example, Dolby Virtual Speaker or SRS Tru-Surround are used. Through the targeted signal transformation of volume, phase and tonality, soundbars simulate the sound of a conventional loudspeaker set.

Surround set

However, the effect depends on the acoustics of the living room, which in practice works more or less well. Soundbars are an easy-to-use, space-saving alternative to the classic surround set. In terms of performance and a sense of space, however, they can not provide water to the multi-part systems.

Download: Sound Formats

A 2.1 speaker set consists of two compact satellites or column speakers and one subwoofer. Often these combinations are offered with an AV or Blu-ray receiver in the package. This product class combines the space-saving advantage of a stereo system with the sonic advantages of a surround set. Here, too, one of the effect algorithms SRS TruSurround XT or Dolby Virtual Speaker is used to generate sound from two loudspeakers.

Subwoofer

Setting up and tuning speakers

Conclusion

A 2.1 system is the perfect solution if you want to create a home cinema-like atmosphere with little wiring and little parking space. Due to the classic stereo arrangement of the loudspeakers, these sets are often better suited for music reproduction than soundbars.

If you put on a discreet loudspeaker set is rewarded with impressive room sound. In addition to multi-channel amplifiers and Bluray players, you need at least five speakers and a subwoofer. The typical 5.1 system is operated on the front, left and right, center and rear left and right. It should be ensured that the tweeters of the different loudspeakers are at the ear level. However, this is only true if classic direct radiators are used in the rear part of the room.

Tips for optimal audio playback

If so-called dipole boxes are used, these should be mounted on the wall about 50 to 80 centimeters above the head height. Bipolar dipole speakers emit the sound forward and backward, giving the listener a diffuse sound. The center is responsible for the playback of the voice channel in the front part of the room.

With its central positioning under the TV or the screen, the special speaker transmits voice and vocals. By working close to the center of the film, film editors from the acoustic center - no matter whether you sit on the sofa to the left or right.

Because the human hearing is sensitive to tonal playback errors at voice frequencies, the center should have a good omnidirectional response. Only then do speech and singing sound tonally neutral in all places. For this purpose, the center needs a vertical medium-high-frequency chassis arrangement. If the design is not possible, some manufacturers design so-called 2.5-way systems. This is the only way a developer can ensure that phase-dependent level differences are avoided under horizontal listening angles.

Buying advice: The best surround sets with stand boxes

The type of loudspeaker used in the front compartment depends on the user's requirements. Narrow column boxes often have an audible weakness due to their small conical speakers. For this they fall less in the living room. Voluminous loudspeakers sound better if one is paying attention to the acoustic coupling of the subwoofer. Compact boxes are less demanding due to system limitations due to limited low-pass capability.

The subwoofer provides a tangible fun factor. In addition to hearing, we also hear body sound. A sufficiently sized membrane area is required for the conversion of the so-called LFE effect channel. The bass range consumes about 80 percent of the energy of a multi-channel loudspeaker set. Therefore, a subwoofer should have a powerful power amp and a large woofer.

The best home cinema components use little if they are not properly adjusted and aligned. The most important settings in the loudspeaker menu of an AV receiver are runtime and volume. These parameters are set individually for each channel to compensate for the different distances between listeners and speakers. For the adjustment, use the signal generator of the AV receiver, a meter and a level meter.

Modern amplifiers with automatic measuring systems offer at the first glance the simpler solution. Depending on the room geometry and acoustics, this usually works well, but not always. It is therefore important not to blindly trust the automatic calibration system. In the end, what counts. Especially with the bass volume, there are different preferences with regard to the volume.

Practice: Acoustic optimization in the home cinema

A critical issue is the transition frequency between subwoofers and satellites. The value you set in the AV receiver depends on the speakers you are using. A fist formula is: the larger the front speakers, the smaller the separation frequency.

If you are using a large volume loudspeaker with an impressive subwoofer, the filter should be set to a maximum of 60 Hertz in order to minimize phase cancellations in the pickup range. For medium-sized satellites, a separation frequency of 80 hertz is recommended. If you use small satellite cubes, transition values between 120 and 180 Hertz are recommended.

With the alignment of the speakers, you can also adjust the sound. If a loudspeaker is too dull, the angulation is appropriate. The speakers are turned in the direction of the listeners, resulting in a more brilliant sound.

The playback quality in the bass range can be optimized in several ways. The simplest solution is to place the subwoofer on the listening position. Then you play a bass-strong piece of music and walk around the room. Wherever it sounds best, place the subwoofer.

Subwoofers with built-in sound correction can also be improved. This is done via an active module with a controllable sound processor. The correction settings are determined either manually by hand or automatically by means of a measuring microphone.

Uncompromising sound quality needs parking space. If you want the most pebble and broadband sound with potent low bass reproduction, do not miss the feared material slaughter. Because physics is the clear game spoiler. However, soundbars and 2.1 systems offer a room-friendly alternative, with drawbacks with respect to room sound quality. For which solution one decides, the goal should be the fun of filming.

The PDFCreator can not only generate PDFs for free, but also provides a number of editing functions for this file type. For example, you can merge multiple PDF files into one.

Also, the program is able to extract individual pages from an existing PDF. The result is saved as a PDF file. The two functions can also be used directly behind each other in order to remove pages from one PDF and insert them into another. PDF24 Creator's built-in pre-function makes it much easier to edit PDF files. If you want to be safe, protect your own PDFs by encryption against unauthorized access. As is the case with PDFs, the protection can be regulated granularly. For example, you can open a PDF, but you can request a password to print or extract content. Note, however, that this is not a 100% protection, since there are programs that can be used to remove the protection features of the PDF format.

Logitech LogiCircle in test

Less surveillance camera as a filming family member: The Logitech Logicircle documents everyday life and, if desired, sums it up in a 30-second time-lapse clip. All recordings are stored in the cloud for a maximum of 24 hours. After that, they will disappear, never to return – if the user does not download them to the App LogiCircle on their smartphone.

Intelligent Technology

For a complete monitoring of the apartment, for example, during the holiday period, 24 hours of course are not enough. Logitech also knows this and is planning to extend the free offer to longer-term storage options. To watch the children play, look for a dog and a cat or get a fast run of domestic events, the current video diary is sufficient. Especially because noise and motion detection is quite clever.

Conclusion

Although there is no controller in the app to adjust the sensor sensitivity, the camera seems good in distinguishing important from trivial. Where the Withings is reported by default when it is called "Motion Detected" or the Netatmo has to be trained on familiar faces, the Logitech sends pleasantly little alarms to the mobile phone.

An important role is played by the Circle microphone. It is comparatively sensitive and can make audible noise, which in other models are already under the disturbance level. The Logitech is also suitable as a baby camera. Although the intercom function should not be overestimated: A tearful toddler or a barking dog will hardly allow itself to be soothed with the rather thin sounding loudspeaker. In principle this applies to all cameras of the test.

A big plus is the integrated battery. It makes the Circle independent of the electricity network. In the test, a charge for about twelve hours and a half of wireless operation, for example in the children's room or on the balcony. Also, to keep the Sunday cake in view through the oven window, it is a good service.

Admittedly, the storage time is limited: 24 hours of video archives demand fast action when broken at home. With its practical battery, good operation and the best data protection in the test, Logitech nevertheless manages to get the victory.

DS416play in the test: Strong NAS with 4K transcoding

Synology brings to the DiskStation 416 (DS416) the play variant DS416play. In the practice test, we check how the device is running and the focus on multimedia functions will work. The DS416play features powerful specs. The 4-Bay NAS server comes with a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Celeron processor, which can maximally with 2.48 Ghz clock. The processor is supported by 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. The basic data is absolutely necessary because the Synology DS416play supports a single-channel 4K Ultra HD or Triple-Channel 1080p full-HD video transcoding. The NAS converts source files independently and streams it to different devices in matching resolution – either once in 4K or three times in 1080p.

DSM: Good and Proven

Also installed are two Gigabit LAN ports including failover support and three USB 3.0 ports. Like Synology, the Synology DS416play also runs with the proven, browser-based operating system DSM (Diskstation Manager).

Apps for streaming traffic of any kind

The naked facts do not sound wrong. The maximum capacity of the 4-Bay NAS is 32 GB (4x 8 TB HDD), the weight of the case amounts to around 2 kilograms and the two pleasantly quiet running fans measure 92 x 92 mm each. Compatible are 3.5 inch SATA III and SATA II HDDs, as well as 2.5 inch SATA III / II HDDs and 2.5 inch SATA III / II SSDs.

Conclusion

3.5-inch drives can be screwed into a decoupled frame and plugged into the enclosure. The decoupling is very beneficial to the quiet operating speed of the NAS ', especially as a media player. That would not have been necessary. With the DS416play Synology renounces an HDMI output, as is usual with other devices with multimedia focus. The NAS does not need to be near the TV to display content. A network access for clients is sufficient. If there are no Synology apps available, run DLNA or UPnP.

Lesetipp: Multimedia streaming in the home network

By the way: With the three USB ports the storage space with external data carriers can theoretically extend to a maximum of 108 TB.

For our test, we equipped the NAS with two Seagate Enterprise HDDs and reached a very good and stable 113 MB / s over a gigabit LAN connection during the write and read test. This is enough bandwidth and performance for extensive streaming. If that is not enough, use the second gigabit port at the same time.

The setup of the NAS ran through the software completely problem-free, also laymen are thus easily clear. We especially liked the good support for smartphones and tablets. The operation of the mobile web interface works without problems. The app selection is huge in the Play Store of Google as well as in the App Store of Apple. To enable access from the road, you must set up a port forwarding, which explains our article for remote access to the NAS.

The software DSM used by Synology has been particularly successful. Great is that this is constantly improved and updated with free updates. Here, Synology has already proved a really outstanding service with its predecessors. Alone in the test room of two weeks came two updates, which were imported without a long wait and corrected the system of errors.

The firmware is controlled by the browser, the interface can be extended via the package center with various additional applications. This includes, for example, a virus scanner, a photo, video and audio station for providing data via the Internet, e-mail server, cloud station and much more. Top!

DSM is easy to use on the desktop or mobile: Here you can easily set the usage restrictions, even guest accesses can be set up. With the help of Smartlinks you can create direct links to individual files, which can be used by everyone.

Via smartphone (primarily iOS and Android) there are wonderfully simple apps, which provide different services. With DS Photo + you can, for example, view photos from the NAS. DS Audio provides a whole player for music. With DS Video, videos are played, DS file in turn allows access to all files. For more specific applications, for example, to monitor your own four walls, there is the DS Cam. This allows a camera connected to the NAS to be controlled.

Anyone who uses one of the mentioned apps on clients, sets them up beforehand also in the package center of DSM. This is virtually the "App Store" for the Synology NAS. There you can quickly find the point Transcoding at Videostation, which allows you to configure the conversion and streaming to different clients. You select folders that you want to share and adjust the quality settings. The operation is very simple and therefore very easy to access. How to stream and create a movie collection with Synology DiskStation, see a separate article.

When streaming itself, there is nothing to complain about, in short: the performance is true and does not stall with several, parallel streams on different clients. Gigabit LAN, Powerline and WLAN were used. In the transcoding forced the fans of the NAS to turn up, really loud or even unpleasant it was at any time. Comfortable, classy!

Hardly any manufacturer is so good at structuring and implementing the user interface and setting up a NAS. But not only beginners get their money's worth. Because of its versatility and performance, the inconspicuous, black box also inspires professionals. As a multimedia center in the home network, the DS416play is highly recommended.

Firefox 2 Download

This sleek browser renounces superfluous add-ons such as instant messenger, mail client, and media player, and focuses only on what a browser needs to do: to quickly and error-free web sites. Firefox can load multiple sites in an instance (tabbed browsing), block pop-ups, have an optimized toolbar and skins for individual surfaces. The operator guidance system is designed for users with a very small hand. For example, you can create your own menu bar. You can also set privacy guidelines, web features, extensions, fonts and colors, as well as individual connections in a group.

Part 4: DVD Burner: Double-Layer Burner in Test

The LiteOn drive with the unspeakable name turned out in our test as a small diva. Small because it requires the smallest space with a depth of 17 centimeters and also fits into tight housings. Diva, because it refused to describe our 8X blanks at a higher speed than 4X. Fortunately, LiteOn provided a suitable eightfold medium.

Also with other media, the LiteOn was not quite right. The self-burned DVD-R did not read it completely and broke before half with an uncorrectable error. The rest of the tests went smoothly. The double-layered blank burned in a little over 43 minutes and equipped it self-titled with the title "DVD-ROM."

LG

The LG 55LA8609 already has a USB-3 connector intus. This means that the TV has enough speed reserves if the user records an HD program and a second one. On the PC, however, the progress is nothing, because the hard disk after the formatting (to the next) only on the LG TV does their service. In the beginning the operation of the huckpack recorder with the hyperactive mouse pointer remote control is a bit tricky, but after some familiarization is good.

Sony Alpha 7 in the RAW test

The Sony Alpha 7 weighs only 475 g and costs 1,500 euros – the new mirrorless A7 sets the standard as the lightest, most compact and most favorable full-size camera with an interchangeable lens in several respects. Instead of an optical one, a good 100% electronic viewfinder with an effective 0.71x magnification along with an adjustable 3 inch monitor is used. In the solid, splash-proof housing of the Sony Alpha 7, there is no flash but an integrated WLAN module space.

Image quality

With a hybrid autofocus system, the Sony Alpha 7 will trip out in good light conditions after 0.29 s - okay. In a darkened environment (30 lux), however, it needs a long 0.73 s. Another drawback is the even smoother selection of matching E-mount full-size lenses, which is to grow to five models in the coming months. To connect A lenses, you need an adapter.

With a continuous 2000 LP / BH, the Sony Alpha 7 fully exploits the theoretical 24-megapixel maximum (JPEG: 1454 to 1917 LP / BH). Compared to JPEG, the A7 also gains in the MTF25 and MTF50 measurements, which allows positive conclusions on the general sharpness and contrasts impression.

However, due to the more moderate color contrast elevation, the DL values decrease from a maximum of 1602 (JPEG) to 1401 LP / BH (RAW). In addition, more noise remains in the picture. Nevertheless, the Sony Alpha 7 in the JPEG as well as RAW comparison is currently among the best cameras on the market. Kauftipp price / performance.

Note: This is the RAW test of the Sony Alpha 7, which focuses solely on the image quality of the camera in RAW mode (more about our test procedures and the new RAW test). For all technical details of the camera and a comprehensive review, including the evaluation of processing and operation, please read our JPEG test of the Sony Alpha 7.

Test: Three 3D TVs from 55 - 65 inches

The first 3D TVs came to the market a few months ago with a 46 inch image diagonal – shortly followed by 50, then 55 inches. Now the pallet is extended up to 60 and even 65 inches, thus up to proud 165 centimeters. The all-new, brand new plasma giant from Panasonic has to contend with the negligibly smaller 60 inch LCD / LED TV (153 cm) from Sony and the newcomer from LG. The LG 55 LX 9500 is the first 3D TV to provide perfect LCD contrast with direct LED backlighting with local dimming.

XCOM 2 in the test: The best strategy game for consoles

XCOM 2 in the test

XCOM 2 in Test: The Story

With XCOM 2, a time-honored strategy game series, which began with U.F.O. Enemy Unknown began and was last represented by the 2012 release XCOM: Enemy Unknown. So now XCOM 2: a strategy game, also for console. Whether it's going well, let's check the PS4 version.

XCOM 2 in the Test: The Game Principle

The events from XCOM: Enemy Unknown are turned upside down. The aliens have taken control of the Earth and established the ADVENT regime there. But Widerstrand stirred. These are the XCOM special units, which are alien to the aliens and are mobile with their mobile control center "Avenger". The goal? The salvation of the earth. No problem or

XCOM 2 in test: The control

In XCOM 2 we have to face the aliens in the form of a round strategy game. With a team of up to six men, we are working through the numerous levels, and we have to defend the aliens. If we proceed unobtrusively, our team remains almost invisible, which in turn allows for surprises. In addition, XCOM 2 offers great basement construction, because the Avenger can be expanded. Then the game changes into a different perspective and we can see the center from the side, found new departments and install areas. Engineers can build new areas and improve existing ones, scientists are once again exploring new weapons and equipment. As resources are scarce, important decisions have to be made in all areas. Take all paths?
is not possible

XCOM 2 in the test: The problems

Strategiespiele actually require a rather complicated control, the mouse and keyboard presuppose. But the developers have transferred the control model to the controller. The navigation works great! The operation of the individual team members is also quite good. Here we have the possibility to perform two actions with each member per round. Whoever lays down and lurks, does not come forward. Whoever shoots from all the pipes will find no cover. Here always precedes to think. Rambo-style? Better not.

But not everything is running at XCOM 2. The difficulty level is quite good after the start. The aliens attack in droves and decimate the team quickly. This can particularly deter beginners. In addition there are miserly long loading times, which interfere with the game flow. On the PS4, in spite of the quite nice, but by no means extraordinary graphics, occasional jerks, which one can not use at all - especially when it gets a bit hectic.

Despite the smaller technical deficits, XCOM 2 has become a real highlight. Strategically demanding round battles, a great atmosphere, good tactics and a superbly implemented control ensure that strategists with XCOM 2 finally have a challenge on the console again - there are unfortunately not too many.
