Windows 10: How to use virtual desktops

If you work with many open windows on the desktop, you lose the overview quickly. Windows 10 provides the ability to create virtual desktops that contain only a portion of the open windows. Depending on what you are doing on the PC, you can switch to the appropriate desktop instead of having to search for the right program window.

The icon to the right of the search field in the taskbar will switch to the Task View, an overview screen for the virtual desktops. Alternatively, press the [Win-Tab] key combination. Here you see all the windows next to each other, which are opened on the current desktop.

Clicking the New Desktop icon creates a new virtual desktop. Clicking on one of the desktops icons in the bottom bar or with the key combinations [Win-Ctrl-arrow on the right] and [Win-Ctrl-Arrow on the left] switches between the desktops
