Media Markt and Saturn are starting now web shops on Ebay. The electrical retailers offer their regular assortment in the Ebay shops with a total of 93,000 articles: 52,000 articles are listed at Media Markt, more than 41,000 at Saturn. However, both dealers sell their regular items on stock only at the “Buy Now” price. Auctions are not offered.
On request, the ordered items can not be delivered home, but in a nearby market. According to the company, collection is free in this case, but it may take up to four business days for the order to arrive.
Media-Saturn CEO Wolfgang Kirsch calls Ebay an "extremely interesting additional sales channel", which provides electrical retailers with access to 16 million potential customers. The connection with the online marketplace now offers Ebay customers a much larger range of electronics articles. At the same time, Media-Saturn, with its ebay presence, is exerting a much higher competitive pressure on the many smaller dealers.
With new sales models, the electronics chains seem to leave the boundaries between the online shop and the store disappearing. For example, Media Markt currently offers its own express shipping service in 22 cities: online orders will be delivered to the customer within 30 minutes to a maximum of three hours for around 10 Euros. Another model offers online customers the opportunity to pick up their ordered items around the clock at a parcel station at a market. In Ingolstadt has even opened a drive-in desk, where customers can pick up their goods.
With a net turnover of 21 billion euros and around 65,000 employees in fiscal year 2013/14, Media-Saturn is represented in 15 countries. Media Markt and Saturn are managed independently and are currently competing with more than 990 markets. Not least with the new sales models, both sales brands are currently being expanded internationally to multichannel dealers.
