Google Chrome (English) - Download

Chrome is Google’s most popular browser and the world’s most widely used browser, alongside Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. With some useful features Chrome differs from other browsers. First of all there is the Chrome Web Store, which allows you to download thousands of extensions and Chrome-based apps – usually free of charge. For the Chrome browser, there are also new interface themes, so-called “Themes”, for download.

When surfing away from German-language websites, the Google Chrome browser helps you with its integrated translation function. Via an additional bar, which appears at the top of the website you are visiting, you can have Chrome translate its contents into English. The Chrome browser does not do this by itself, but passes on the address of the website visited to the Google servers. At all, the intense data exchange with Google is one of the most important criticisms of Chrome. Chrome has now lost its pre-position as the fastest browser.

Apart from the specialties, Chrome is characterized by everything that belongs to a modern browser. You can open multiple pages in tabs and easily browse the web from the address field called Omnibox. Chrome provides an incognito mode where you can not leave tracks on the local PC and can synchronize settings, bookmarks, and other data between PCs.

Google Chrome is available in two versions: The "stable" branch of Chrome is intended for the broad mass of end users, that is, for normal everyday use. There is also a "beta channel" for testers as well as a "dev channel" for developers, which is already much more frequently updated and usually a whole version number is ahead. What's changed after the updates, read the Google Chrome changelog on the official Chrome blog.

Important note: With the update to version 50 Chrome support for Windows XP and Windows Vista ended
