Restore Windows with Clonezilla

That works with the free Clonezilla Live CD. Download the approximately 112 MBytes ISO image at clonezilla.org, and burn it with Imgburn on an empty blank. The handling of Clonezilla is simple


Step 1: Boot your computer with Clonezilla


Boot the Windows computer with the Clonezilla CD. (You may need to adjust the boot settings in the PC BIOS.) On the Clonezilla boot menu, press the Enter key and then select "English" and the corresponding keyboard layout. Start Clonezilla and choose "device-image ...". Press "OK", select "local dev" if a second hard disk or an external storage medium is available. Click on "OK, Next" and choose the source disk.


Step 2: Set Directory


Select the destination and specify the directory where the image files should land. In the next step, leave the "Settings on Beginner Beginner", then choose "saveparts", specify the desired image name, and select the partition to be backed up


Step 3: Create Gzip compressed image


Clonezilla directly creates a gzip-compressed image of the source partition, ie in our example of Windows, directly after the selected target partition in the specified directory. Depending on the size of the source partition and the speed of the hard disks, the process may take several minutes.


Step 4: Start Clonezilla with "device_image" and "local_dev"


To write a backed image back to the disk, start Clonezilla as before using the options "device_image" and "local_dev". Select the partition and the directory where the previously saved image is located, go to "Beginner Beginner" and then "restoreparts."


Clonezilla automatically finds and displays all images on the backup medium. Select the destination partition on which the image should land. After two confirmations, Clonezilla will restore the backup. The selection of the target partition has to be right, since the parition is overridden.
