Panasonic Lumix GX1 - in the test

Panasonic also offers the 16-megapixel sensor in other system cameras, but these show a classic SLR design with an electronic viewfinder, where the optical viewfinder finds its place. In this test field, only the Sony has an electronic viewfinder integrated into the left corner, the Panasonic still a plug-in.

Housing & Equipment

The DMW-LVF2 (480000 RGB pixel, 100%, 0.7x eff.) Is available as an option for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1. A flash unit is installed, and the GX1 can not be ragged even with the housing quality. The standard zoom (Vario 3,5-5,6 / 14-42 mm Asph.) With motor drive is almost as short as a Pancake in transport mode with retracted tube, which is the Lumix nearly " Sakkotauglich ".

GX1 has a 3-inch non-tilt monitor with a resolution of 153333 RGB pixels behind the current competition of Sony NEX-7 or Samsung NX200.

Functionality & Operation

In the case of the Lumix, the zoom and focus ring is missing on the lens, zoomed in and zoomed out manually when the sliding buttons on the lens are operated. Alternatively, you can also zoom by touchscreen display. For this case, an image of the mentioned sliding switch is shown on the display.

The Panasonic offers a magnification for manual focusing. Particularly useful with the Lumix: The section of the 4-fold magnification takes only a part of the image, so the overall composition is still in view (picture-in-picture representation). The selection frame can be moved freely with the finger on the touchscreen.

Recording & Autofocus

Here the Lumix sets a benchmark for mirrorless models: with 0,26 / 0,29 s (1000/30 Lux), with values, which would be an honor for every SLR camera with phase AF. In addition, by touching the touch screen monitor, not only the AF target can be determined, but also triggered directly.

Of course, the GX1 also does not lack the video function. It films full-HD with 1920x1080 pixels and 50 half-images / s in the AVCHD format.

Image quality

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1, with its 16-megapixel sensor in the four-thirds format compared to the current Sony NEX-7 and Samsung NX200, can hold its own - even with the boundary resolution with very constant values between about 1670 to 1510 LP / BH over the ISO range from 100 to 6400. The DL values are also at a high level. The Lumix, however, is more sensitive than the Sony at high sensitivities and offers less dynamism.

Conclusion

Bottom line, the Lumix is a solid camera with good features and even picture quality (especially up to ISO 1600). It also presents itself as a very compact and fast travel camera with its 14-42 mm powerzoom (whose tube has entered the transport state). Buying Tip: Mobility.
