Retouch with Adobe Photoshop CS6

If you have a lot of retouching, look at the current Photoshop CS6 – the program offers much better retouching than all previous versions. Highlight is the new content-shifting tool: it moves a main motif within the image, automatically adjusts the edge adjustment and also fills the gap in the original location. So you can retouch tattoos or stream masks, or re-form the picture.


Step 1: New Layer


Great for most retouching techniques in Photoshop CS6: You can grab the retouch on a new blank layer. All newly created image points end up there. The original photo on the "background" level remains unchanged.


Step 2: Tool change


Hard edges, which were created during the correction, still refine by smoothing the upper retouching plane. Therefore, click "Create New Layer" at the bottom of the Layers panel to create the new blank "Layer 1."


Step 3: Options


TIP: If you want to go quickly and the main motif is in a very homogenous environment, do not use the new layer.


Step 4: Select


Switch to the content-based move tool. You will find it in the same tray of the toolbar as the area repair brush, repair tool and other retouching functions. The last active tool in this group can also be activated by pressing the J key at any time. Use Shift + J to switch between the individual tools in this group. Now it's interesting: Use the "Customize" menu to change the margins from "very strict" to "very inaccurate". Extend instead of move: In the "Mode" drop-down menu, from "Move" to "Extend", to duplicate your main motif. Here, too, create a new layer. The main motif can then be mirrored, rotated or reduced.

Step 5: Border Adjustment


1. Create a new blank layer. 2. Switch to the Mending tool and use the "Content-based" and "Record all layers" options .3. Frame the woman in red dress. 4. Drag the selection frame over an image that can obscure the error. Photoshop immediately displays a first retouching preview. 5. Transfer to a new image: Dragging image areas to another file will not allow Photoshop to adjust borders. With a trick it still does: 1. Place the two files as layers in a file next to each other. 2. If necessary, make the new layer completely visible using the "Show image, all" button.

3. At the top, create a new blank layer. 4. In the content-shifting tool options, use Expand and Record All Layers. 5. Select the image detail and drag it to the new image plane using the content-shifting tool. Immediately test transitions such as "Very inaccurate."


To change the selection: If a selection already exists, the content-shifting tool works like other selection tools: Press the Shift key to expand the existing selection, and Alt-click to decrease the selected area.

Soft Selection: In difficult cases, test whether a soft edge of the selection has better results: Apply the selection with the asso, then click on "Improve Edge" and set the "soft edge" to about three pixels.
