There is still a little time left until the analogue satellite signal is switched off. But many manufacturers are already addressing this issue and offering new digital receivers.

The trend is quite clear in so-called hybrid receivers, which offer digital TV entertainment and interactive Internet offers in one device. Thus, classic television and modern internet TV merge into one unit. HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is a great addition to traditional broadcasting.

With additional information on programs, news and sports, the classic videotext is modernized. But also the media centers, which can be used to send missed programs to the screen, are now very popular. This is especially true for the ARD Tagesschau.


However, the hybrid receivers can do even more. Thanks to the connection to the local network, you can also take photos, videos and music from a NAS server, for example, in the work room or cellar.


The five receivers in this test are, however, not exclusively hybrid receivers. Rather, Logisat and STRONG enter the race with conventional satellite receivers. The low-priced Logisat device scores to receive HDTV and HD-Plus.


The STRONG is finally the first satellite receiver to be certified for the private Austrian HDTV program, which starts broadcasting in September. Module and card are attached to the device.


With smart, TechnoTrend and Vantage, receivers are launched, HbbTV, a web portal and network connection. In the TechnoTrend S855 the web portal of the HD-Plus consortium has already been implemented. It is still in the development phase and is to be released during the year.


The new satellite receivers can be seen. The highlight of our test candidates is surely the Vantage VT-100S: it is a worthy and slightly cheaper successor of the VT-1.


A double tuner, which also has the TechnoTrend receiver, belongs in this class. This allows up to two programs to be recorded simultaneously, while a third can be viewed or an older recording started. The TV becomes the subject of the spectator - so it should be.


Each receiver - be it in the beginner, middle or upper class - should have a PVR capability that makes the unit a VCR.
