In March the P2P technology for Windows updates in Windows 10 had indicated, the confirmation comes with the release of the free update. With peer-to-peer technology, the main servers are relieved by the fact that the clients function practically as a server network and, in addition to Microsoft’s sources, can supply themselves with the necessary files to be downloaded. In Windows Update, the function – which is activated by default – can be disabled, as Carsten Knobloch, founder of Caschy’s blog, describes.
To do this, simply go to the PC settings in Windows 10 and open the "Update and Security" section. In "Windows Update", click on the "Advanced Options". There you will find the point "Delivery of updates". There one can disable the function completely or adjust so that the P2P principle only in the own home network or additionally also online access. Simply move the slider to the left, or leave it in the default setting, and click the desired option by clicking.
With the rollout of large Windows updates, such a function from Microsoft's point of view is useful, so that there will not be bottlenecks or even failures. Because Microsoft is not always able to allocate up to 40 Terabits per second of bandwidth to distribute updates.

It is less useful to activate the function in the default setting and not to inform the user about it. An active upload restricts the bandwidth for the user. If it is not informed, reduced speed when using cloud services or social networks can quickly lead to unnecessary short-circuit reactions. In addition, there are still users of Internet volumes. Especially these will not welcome additional traffic.
