So let’s go to the last part of the test week with the Onkyo TX NR 646.
Conclusion
I have now tested the receiver with all the possibilities, formats and playing devices that are in my household. The most difficult thing, in fact, was playing a Dolby Atmos Blu-ray. What in this case but not on Onkyo, but rather the very confused attitude of the Blu-ray player was. The menu of the receiver is, as with all previously tested settings, really simple and self-explanatory. Even the users, who had no experience with setting up a receiver so far, will achieve perfect results.
The Onkyo TX NR 646 offers an equipment that is almost unique in the price class up to 700 euros. For film lovers the new formats Dolby Atmos and DTS: X. For audio enthusiasts a full-fledged phonoe input and the standard streaming services today.
The sound is convincingly convincing both in low tones, as well as in speech reproduction in films, or audiophile pearls on CD or vinyl. With its 160 watts per channel, 2 subwoofer outputs and the possibility of a 5.2.2 set up, but also with action chords and musically with electronic sounds and, of course, the classic metal and rockframe.
For friends of 4K content the device has HDCP 2.2 compatible inputs. Small peculiarities, are the additional 2 zones. Not only for a second stereo pair, but the receiver is also equipped with a second HDMI output.
On a school number scale of 1-6 the Onkyo would certainly have earned a whopping 2. The note would only deteriorate if Auro as a further spatial sound format really took over the market ...
