ColorFoto: How did you get to portrait and nude photography?

Jessica Prüßmann: In 2010 I seriously began to photograph people, portrait and even act. In the run-up, I had photographed my cats, but I soon asked girlfriends if they did not want to be for me.

What fascinates you about these two genres?
I am interested in the different facets of people, especially women. For me, expression and emotion count. I like direct glances at the camera, delicate gestures and also naked skin. For me, the stylistic means to express emotions and strengthen the image expression. My naked pictures are not the bare breasts of the models in focus, but vulnerability, tenderness and man behind his facade and (Ver) clothing. An unclothed person always gives much of himself.

I do not have a zoom lens, but only shoot with a 50 mm fixed focal length. This means that I close my portals automatically to my model. I think this physical proximity is important to me, to build a relationship with the model and create proximity in the picture. In addition, the lens must be very light, because I work with Available Light only and is a big fan of open aperture and low depth of field. The blurring process automatically brings my intended viewpoint into the focus and creates a certain "softness."
What are your favorite motives and why?
Women are my favorite motifs. First of all, because my girlfriends were the best, available models. Then I developed an interest for the different facets that women possess. I wanted to show that every woman can be strong and vulnerable at the same time.
You registered in October 2007 in the fc. How did you get to the fc and how does it affect your photography?
I registered myself out of curiosity to see what others were conjuring. In addition, I wanted to get inspiration and of course to know what others say to my pictures. At the beginning I learned by looking at recordings of third parties. The fc makes the learning process easy because of its great variety and clarity. Also the first contacts with other photographers and models came about the fc. The fc stands for suggestions, criticism, exchange and contacts.
Do you have any photographic models, and if so, which ones?
Many photographers inspire me - through individual motifs, through their style or technique. There is even one that particularly touches me: Jan Scholz, a photographer from Hamburg, who now lives in Belgium. Not only does he photographed almost in analogy, he has for me the absolute view - for light, charming models, locations, picture composition and expression. His pictures are very simple, very gentle and expressive.
What is your personal handwriting for you?
I think it is the proximity to the model, which hopefully also the viewer feels, the often direct view into the camera and the light from the front. A delicacy, even fragility of the motifs, through facial expressions, gestures and posture, and hopefully through emotion.
