Spotify Connect transfers music streaming to other devices on the network

The AV receiver in the living room or a radio loudspeaker in the kitchen plays seamlessly where the mobile device has stopped – controlled by the Spotify app on the smartphone. This enables the “Spotify Connect” function, which is integrated directly into more and more devices. With iPhone and Co. it already works, an appropriately updated Android app is to follow by the end of the year.

Because the receivers get their music directly from the Internet via the network connection, the smartphone battery can be protected after the transfer - an advantage over AirPlay. Prerequisite: The target device must support the connection.

Some devices, such as the B & O three-track sound mirror A9 or Pioneer and Yamaha AV receivers from the 2013 model year, can be fitted with a software update for "Spotify Connect."

Others like the new SoundSphere speakers from Philips or the iTeufel Air Blue come with Spotify Connect on the market. In the long run, the feature is likely to work because the streaming provider no longer actively supports alternative play-back solutions.

However, multi-room applications are not yet possible: The app can only supply one receiver with music at a time. For the time being, multi-room systems from Sonos and Raumfeld have to manage without Connect.
