IT pioneer and mouse inventor: Douglas Engelbart died

As Cnet reports, the inventor of the mouse – Douglas Engelbart – died last night of renal failure. He said that he had fallen asleep peacefully, according to his daughter Cristina, who confirmed the death of her father. Earlier, it was known that Engelbart was in poor health. He leaves his wife and four children.

Engelbart was born as the middle child of three siblings in Portland, Oregon. Already in the early 1960s, he developed the first computer mouse as an X-Y position indicator for a screen system. This mouse was made of wood and consisted of a rotary knob and a key.


Engelbart was awarded three times for his outstanding research and its results: 1997 with the Turning Award, 1999 with the John von Neumann Medal. In 2000 he was finally honored by Bill Clinton with the National Medal of Technology. This is one of the highest awards in the US.


After a fulfilling life in which he studied electrical engineering and computer science, led numerous, today essential, researches and also introduced the idea of ​​an Internet build-up and the first videoconference, the genius from Oregon is now death.
