With the official Windows 10 release, owners of older PC systems are asked whether they can handle the new operating system after the update. Above all, missing drivers for graphics cards can cause problems. But how far does Windows 10 support from Nvidia, AMD and Intel go back?
Microsoft, at least, is very modest about its minimum requirements: a graphics card with DirectX 9 support and the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM-1.0) driver, which was released in 2007. This should support many older generations, you might say.
But AMD is already opposed to this theory. According to the responsible support site, the Catalyst driver for Windows 10 is available only from the Radeon HD-5000 series, which released its release in 2009. In the official AMD forum, however, there are user reports that older graphics cards are nevertheless supported, you should install the Windows 8 driver "Legacy-Catalyst 13.4 Beta."

Nvidia also makes clear which graphics cards are still supported. In an overview, a map of the GeForce 8 series or newer is spoken for Windows 10 to run smoothly. All supported graphics cards can be found in the linked list.
The integrated graphics chips from Intel have their Windows 10 support from the fourth core generation "Haswell" of 2013. These CPUs are recognized by the term "Intel i3 / i5 / i7-4xxx". Older chips like Sandy Bridge can refer to a beta driver for Windows 10, which can be played on the PC with Windows Update.
For owners of older PC systems, an upgrade of Windows 10 does not seem to be recommendable. If there are missing graphic drivers, jerks or missing animations occur.
