Windows 10: Cortana gets new features

In the future, Cortana will be able to analyze e-mails and, on the basis of these, automatically recall memories.

Cortana is even smarter. The wizard, introduced with Windows 10, will be able to analyze their own e-mails in the future, and to make suggestions for reminders. For example, the software is supposed to recognize commitments like "I'll send you the updated report" or "I'll take over" and then offer an automatically generated reminder.

For the intelligent, automated analysis of e-mails, the Cortana team has worked closely with Microsoft Research. How Cortana accesses the e-mails and whether third-party vendors are not supported by Outlook and Windows Mail is not yet known.

As a second new feature, Microsoft is improving the calendar management of Cortana. In the future, the assistant will intelligently recognize when an appointment is overlapping or set to an unusual time for the user. For example, if a meeting is scheduled to start at 8 am, although the user will not start his / her office day before 9 am, Cortana will offer to set the alarm earlier.

According to the official Windows blog, both new Cortana features are currently being executed via the Windows Insider Program and are then to be implemented via Windows 10. For the time being, however, the functions are only available in English (language versions-en and GB). While the calendar functions could quickly make the jump into the American version, the implementation of the e-mail analysis for other languages should take longer.
