Creative Cloud: The way to the cloud - comment

Adobe has a clear vision and strategy: all programs from the previous Creative Suite will only be offered in a subscription model and linked via the Creative Cloud. Is the step from Photoshop CS6 to Photoshop CC the beginning of the end?

No question: The step of Adobe is brave, but it is by no means surprising, as already with the Creative Suite CS6 Adobe has prepared the way into the cloud. For one and a half years you can buy Photoshop not only in a box, but alternatively in a monthly or year subscription book. The fact that Adobe prefers users who pay their software via subscription was clear already three months ago, because the industry primus published the "liquefy filter" exclusively for subscribers. But it was also clear: Despite the Creative Cloud subscription, the software is still installed locally - the Internet connection is not permanently required, but only for updates.

This is exactly the advantage of the subscription model: Adobe does not make any new versions anymore, but publishes functions as updates when these are developed in series. This sounds logical, especially since software was previously rather banana product (product matures with the customer). As a rule, almost all manufacturers do not have the exact functional scope until just before the publication. Since functions, which are almost finished, but which prove critical in the beta test, are taken out of the installation shortly before the pressing. Next release date: In one year with the next release. This is not really meaningful - you have to admit that. The argument of the advantage of the cloud fits accordingly.

But the users can see it quite calmly: Not every new feature is an argument for an upgrade to a new version. Whether professional or amateur, the cost of a software play an important role. So, for example, Heiko Reckert writes on our Facebook channel: "I use a tutorial version and I've added a new version every few years, CS2, CS5 and then CS8 should come in. When I go out of four years I use this software , Then the per year is 62.50 euro or 5.20 euro a month. Now I should pay 20 euro a month? "

It is questionable whether the new functions here will shake the clear calculation of the users. Even if Adobe with the improved sharpness tool, Camera Raw 8 and the integration of Camera Raw as a filter in Photoshop CC as well as the intelligent calculation of the resolution offers quite good functions. For many, and especially for amateurs, it should be clear at the moment: Firstly, to back up a version of Photoshop CS6 as long as the software is still available - and then wait. Perhaps Adobe still thinks another - or there is a manufacturer that jumps into the gap. The market for image processing programs is hard, even if Adobe has mastered it so far.

Maybe Adobe actually picks up something and is too much for professional users, who need not only Photoshop, but also several of the creative programs. Then the calculation looks a bit better. In addition, the real advantage of the Creative Cloud is not the permanent updates, but the teamwork concept of the cloud storage space. Here, data is stored so that it is available to other team members - regardless of whether they are located in the neighboring room or far away. This allows devices to be synchronized very easily - this is becoming more and more important in the age of laptop, tablet and smartphone.

There is no question: this is the trend in the media sector, but film production, advertising agencies and publishing houses are also hard to calculate. Here, too, some will look for alternatives.
